What is Jiu Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art, combat sport, and a self defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Founded in 1882, its parent art of judo was separated from older systems of Japanese Jujutsu by an important difference in that it is a sport that promotes physical fitness and builds character. It is also a way of life.

BJJ promotes the concept that a smaller, weaker person can defend against a stronger person by using proper techniques and leverages when taking the fight to the ground.

Disciplines of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu One of the biggest differences between Framingham Brazilian Jit Jitsu and other schools is our method of instruction, focusing on building a solid beginner foundation in applying joint-locks and chokeholds. BJJ training can be used for self-defense, sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi) and mixed martial arts (MMA) competition.
